_________________ __________ In the last century the industry and North American society, like other western countries, have changed from manual to the information based. Information communication has become the essential component for businesses to operate efficiently and the individuals to exchange information with their peers and communicate with their friends and relatives. The availability of computers at a reasonable cost, user-friendly applications software and the Internet have been catalysts in doubling the information available to individuals at their finger tips. Industry and society are moving in to the Information age. Businesses are eliminating their manual processes to interface with clients encouraging them to do business with them electronically. Individuals have access to the information via internet and can communicate with other people with common interests all over the world. Future employment opportunities will be for knowledge-based workers. The brick and mortar businesses will be replaced by the scattered workforce, on an as required basis, working on projects remotely. Corporations will make use of the knowledge-based worker-pool available in developing countries to reduce their operating costs. More and more businesses will be automating their people-intensive processes. Business-to-business transactions will be made simple with standard e-commerce protocols.
