ANSI, ECSA, CCITT and ITU are involved in developing ATM standards. The ATM Forum is responsible for the standards.

Organizations - North American and European organizations work together on ATM standards.

The ATM Forum - is an international non-profit organization formed with the objective of accelerating the use of ATM products and services The ATM Forum was set up in 1991. It has 80 member companies. The Forum consists of the worldwide Technical Committee, marketing awareness programs, and the User Committee. The Technical Committee consists of a variety of working groups, which investigate different areas of ATM technology and are responsible for specifications.

Approved Standards - Voice and Telephony Over ATM Specifications (af-vtoa-0078.000, af-vtoa-0083.000, af-vtoa-0083-001 etc.). ATM User Network Interface specifications ( af-uni-0010.000) and Network to Network Interface specifications are listed in the ATM Forum site under Approved Specifications.
