Any type of service (voice, high speed data and video) is accepted by the Service Adapter. A Service Adapter maps the signal to the payload envelope of the STS-1 or VT. All signals are eventually converted to STS-1 or higher.

Future services include video, FDDI, Broadband ISDN, ATM and MPEG-2.
