Module 7 - LAN, WAN, VPN, WLAN, MAN, FDDI and Optical MANS Slide 39 of 45 _________________ __________ Fiber Distributed Data Interface II
_________________ __________ FDDI II is an enhancement to the original FDDI, sometimes known as FDDI I. It supports voice, data and video. The transmission speed is still 100 M bps but it is divided into 16 6.144 M bps circuits that can be allocated to carry the delay sensitive traffic. Each of the 6.144 M bps channels can be subdivided into 96 separate 64 K bps channels. This technology was never implemented as it was too slow for broadcast-quality video and compressed video. ATM technology is faster and more flexible.
