                                    Fiber Distributed Data Interface II

                                    Multi-media Traffic

                                    6.144 M bps Channels

                                    Supporting 64 K bps channels

                                    Superceded by ATM Technology

FDDI II is an enhancement to the original FDDI, sometimes known as FDDI I. It supports voice, data and video. The transmission speed is still 100 M bps but it is divided into 16 6.144 M bps circuits that can be allocated to carry the delay sensitive traffic. Each of the 6.144 M bps channels can be subdivided into 96 separate 64 K bps channels.

This technology was never implemented as it was too slow for broadcast-quality video and compressed video. ATM technology is faster and more flexible.
