Land mobile applications can be categorized as paging, dispatch, mobile telephony and mobile data/messaging. Each application has unique characteristics and  the system supporting the application is optimized for that application. Thus one can observe in the marketplace standalone systems optimized for paging, for dispatch service, for interconnected mobile telephone service, and for two-way data/messaging.
