1G systems were analogue cellular systems. AMPS was used in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, the Bahamas, Hong Kong and South American countries. E-TACS was used in U.K. and NMT-900 systems were used in Scandinavian countries.

AMPS - A mobile wireless standard was introduced in North America in 1983. A narrow-band AMPS (NAMPS) standard was introduced in 1992.

E-TACS - This standard was developed in the U.K. in 1985 and deployed in Europe and Asia.

NMT-900 - This standard was developed jointly by Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland and Denmark and deployed in 1986. NMT-900 systems initially operated in 450 M Hz band and later operated in 900 M Hz band.
