LMDS is a wireless alternative to fiber and coaxial cables and is the easiest way to deliver high-speed data and two way video services.

Economic Viability - It is an attractive solution to provide broadband services in remote areas and areas with difficult terrain.

Scalability - The LMDS network can be expanded one cell at a time rather than laying out large capital.

Bandwidth - 1300 M Hz can simultaneously support 16,000 telephone calls and 200 video channels.

Direct Line-of-Site - Leaves, branches, trees and buildings can block and attenuate signals. A direct line-of-site is required between the antenna, a customer's site and a radio hub. Established line-of-site between hub sites and customer sites mitigates multi-path effects.

Attenuation - Rain fades the signal. The millimeter waves are absorbed by water, which reduces the signal strength.

Reduced Operating Costs - These costs include carrying the spare parts for maintenance, staff training, hardware and software updates and day-to-operations of the network. The new approach will also impact on the capital cost. The saving will result due to consolidating communications facilities.
