Module 1 - An Overview of the Communications Industry Slide 19 of 26 Multi-Media Convergent Technologies
_________________ __________ As on the previous slide 18, many convergent technologies have been developed by the computer and communications industry to accommodate digital voice and video applications. NCS Packet Cable protocol is an initiative by Cable Television Laboratory Inc. for delivering multi-media services over the two-way cable network. MPLS standards were developed by the IETF. The IP networks use MPLS to provide QOS for real-time applications. Video digitization describes how the video frames in video-conferencing systems are digitized and transmitted over facilities and transmission protocols. These schemes (MPEG - Moving Picture Coding Experts Group, JPEG - Joint Photographic Experts Group) describe how the compressed data is represented.
