Enterprises want their services on one reliable platform, from one supplier at reasonable cost with good service support. Residential consumers want high speed connections to the Internet Service Providers (ISP) with quality service support.

Enterprises would very much like Voice, Data, Fax, Internet, Video services provided on one access line. The carriers still have multiple platforms for the services. With convergent technologies available, in the future multi-media services will be available on Local Area Networks and the Internet.

45 M bps and 155 Mbps access lines are very expensive.

One point of contact is very desirable for the telephone, cable and wireless companies to get prompt good quality service.

The new IP-based networks are suffering with lost packets, delays and network outages.
