_________________ __________ The Internet has been a boon to the communications industry. Internet technology has changed the face of enterprise communications. Intranet, extranet and high-speed Internet connections demand has helped communications and telephone companies revenues. Apart from the Internet technology, computer technology, faster and compact with user-friendly interfaces has changed the information industry. Global companies, requiring sophisticated communications networks to meet their day-to-day communications needs, advanced the development of the convergent technologies in the enterprise networks. Apart from enterprises, the residential consumers are migrating from dial-up to higher speed (1.544 Mbps) connections. Telecoms are responding by providing ADSL service and the cable companies by providing Cable Modem service. More and more enterprises see value in deploying IP infrastructure for their voice, data and video communications. Cisco is one of the major players to offer multi-media convergent solutions on their AVVID products. More and more companies are migrating from old PABX to IP-PABX and IP-Phones. North American and European companies are looking for new markets. Outsourcing from the far east Computer expertise, therefore, requires a sophisticated communications network. Computer hardware with a powerful processor is coming within the average consumer's budget range. The new generation of computers are compact and light making them easier to carry. The interfaces and networks are available to access corporations' databases at any time from any place.
