More and more North American Companies (Mac Donalds, Coca Cola and Pepsi) moving to politically stable countries, require business information at their finger tips to make strategic decisions. All industries have realized the importance and value of data. Now data on consumer behavior is collected by chains to help them stock up or provide consumer-desired products. Most companies have gone through the re-engineering process resulting in fewer remaining staff, scattered around the globe, requiring reliable and fast communications systems.

Multi-national companies (Food Chains, Retail Stores) are expanding to countries with growing economies. Many companies (Microsoft, Australian Government) are setting up offices in developing countries to take advantage of the cheap intellectual labor.

Head offices of the multi-nationals require necessary information in time to make and execute decisions. The head-office, being remote from the branch offices, needs to keep branch office information/databases up to date.

Business processes are modified to improve on the bottom line. e-Commerce is one such application where processes are implemented by using computer and the Internet technologies.
