The PSTN network was designed for speech transmission, to make use of the PSTN to transmit data over its facilities required to covert data from digital to analogue and fit it with the voice channel of 4 K HZ. All data communications technologies were designed to conform to voice channel requirements. The PSTN platform is inadequate to transmit voice, data and video simultaneously. It is not designed for high speed data transmission.
