ATM switches transfer cells from input port to ouput port based on Virtual Circuit and Virtual Path identifiers.

Virtual Path Identifiers and Virtual Circuit Identifiers are re-usable.

Virtual Path Identifier and Virtual Circuit Identifier are replaced by ATM switches according to the translation table.
