                                     An Optical Fiber Transmission system

_________________                                                                                  __________

A fiber optical communications system consists of a Light Source, Wavelengths Multiplexer and Demultiplexer, Optical Amplifiers, Optical Add and Drop Multiplexers and a Light Detector.

Light Source - Converts signals from computer or terminals into the light to be placed on the optical fiber.

Wavelengths Multiplexers and De-multiplexers - Used to carry multiple waves on a fiber.

Optical Amplifiers - Used to regenerate the signals.

Optical Add and Drop Multiplexers - Used to extract the wavelengths and insert wavelengths.

Light Detector - At the receiving end detecting and converting the light signals into an acceptable terminal format.
