                          A Case Study - WDM Deployment

 Customer:    Cable & Wireless and WorldCom

About the Customer:    Both companies decided to build a transatlantic submarine network under the
                                         project name Gemini.

About the Network:    Four physically remote cable landing stations, two in the USA and two in
                                       the U.K. South and North cables are laid 400 miles apart.

Network Architecture:    The network consists of multiple SDH rings to provide city-to-city connectivity. WDM over multiple fibers enables higher transmission capability. The system has 30 G bps of customer capacity with 30 G bps of in-system standby restoration capacity.
