3 G systems will support at least 144 K bps in all radio environments and up to 2 M bps in low mobility and indoor environments. The systems will support symmetrical and asymmetrical data transmission, internet protocol and real-time video traffic. It will also support roaming between international  and  different 3 G systems.

Internet Applications - Browsing information, subscribing to information (news, weather and traffic), remote wireless access to the Internet and Intranets and electronic commerce applications. 

Messaging Services - Multi-media e-mail (photo / video post cards)

Real-time Audio/Video Applications - Videophone, interactive videoconferencing and audio/music

Multi-media Business Applications - Telemedicine, remote security surveillance
