Wireless network solutions offer portability which wire-line solutions do not offer. Significant changes are happening in the way people communicate at home. At home more and more people are using the Internet for communicating and entertainment and PCs for computing. In addition, the mobility of laptop computers gives users an easy way to take work between home and office. More over, the role of the traditional office is changing as can be seen by the growing number of home-based businesses and home offices. All these trends are driving the need to share Internet access, PCs, phone lines, peripherals and information in the home. Wireless networking offers the solution. Four standards have evolved for wireless home networking: HomeRF, Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11 and HyperLAN.

New tablet computers and Personal Digital Assistants are taking advantage of wireless networks to create portable web surfing devices even more convenient than a laptop computer.
