UMTS Network

                                                                                                   ________________

UMTS integrates packet and circuit data transmission. UMTS is designed to offer data rates on demand. UMTS will enable a mobile user to experience a consistent set of services even when they roam from their home network to other UMTS operators. The key technology for UMTS is radio access using UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access (ULTA). The ETSI has decided on W-CDMA for paired spectrum bands and TD-CDMA for unpaired bands. The transmission rate of ULTRA will provide at least 144 K bps for full mobility applications in all environments; 384 K bps for limited mobility applications and 2.o48 M bps for low mobility applications. Intelligent terminals and the Universal Subscriber Identity Module (USIM) will allow personalization of the user interface and provision of features.

Spectrum for UMTS - The World Radio Conference has identified the frequency bands 1885 - 2025 M Hz and 2110 - 2200 M Hz for IMT-2000 systems.
