Advanced features of wireless mobile systems ( higher data rates and large bandwidths, global roaming and coordination with other networks) will enable applications like Virtual Navigation, Tele-medicine, Tele-geoprocessing applications, Crisis-management applications and Distant education.

Virtual Navigation - Remote databases will include the graphical representation of streets, buildings, and physical characteristics of metropolitan areas. Blocks of data will be transmitted to occupants of vehicles to visualize the environment ahead. The internal layout of buildings will assist in planning emergency rescues.

Tele-medicine - Paramedics assisting the victim of an accident in a remote location will be able to access medical records and video conference with medical specialists for an emergency intervention.

Tele-geoprocessing Applications - Geographical information systems, global positioning systems, and high-capacity wireless mobile systems will enable the development of many new applications.

Crisis-management Applications - Rural disaster where communications infrastructure is in disarray. Services could be set-up in hours rather in days or even weeks.

Education via the Internet - Educational opportunities available on the Internet can be made available to individuals living in thinly populated or remote areas.
